Health Update | The Journey

I was born with a hole in the heart which is a congenital heart defect. My grandad spoke with my mum to go ahead with having open heart surgery which I had at the age of 16 months old. They managed to patch up the hole and this left me with a leaky left narrowed heart valve which had to be widened.

During the operation I had a coronary angioplasty which is a procedure used to widen blocked or narrowed coronary arteries (the main blood vessels supplying the heart). The term "angioplasty" means using a balloon to stretch open a narrowed or blocked artery

I had to have a temporary pacemaker fitted this was removed I think a week or so after the operation I have been back and forth to hospital for regular ECG check ups to monitor my heart a lifelong examination to watch for any changes through both the childhood and adulthood.

My ECG checkups went from every 6months and changed to every 12months it stayed like this for some time before being changed to every 2 years where I would have my ECG and then get the results the following year by speaking with my consultant then the year after ECG again. in 2019 it was decided that due to there being no change that my ECG would be changed to every 4 years.
