URGENT Public Meeting Announced!

Hopwood Depree has organized an Urgent Public Meeting to address the issues concerning Hopwood Hall Estate and the actions of Rochdale Council in their private cabinet meeting.

Rochdale Council made the decision in private to not extend Mr. Depree's agreement and repossessed the Hall by forcibly changing the locks on the entrance gates. The RDA (Rochdale Development Agency) has been collaborating closely with Rochdale Council and Hopwood Hall College (Middleton), creating a significant conflict of interest as the College Principal, Julia Heap, serves on the RDA's board of Directors.

Rochdale Council and Hopwood Hall College have collaborated for an extended period to restrict Mr. Depree's independent entry to Hopwood Hall Estate. They constructed a new Technology building that obstructs the ancient historic original gate entrance to the estate, effectively preventing any access through that route.

Rochdale Council had scheduled a Township Meeting for 20th November 2024 at 6pm, but abruptly called it off, citing the following reason:

"The meeting scheduled for Wednesday 20th November 2024 has been cancelled as there are no substantive items on the agenda.

Committee meetings must be called for the consideration of decisions or items for consultation, the open forum is not a substantive item of business and therefore the meeting has been cancelled"

A significant amount of questions were sent to the Township committee 10 days (2 weeks) prior to the meeting. The historic Hopwood Hall Estate, a Grade II* Listed building on the at-risk list, holds great significance for the Middleton community. It is disheartening that Rochdale Council does not consider it a substantial matter of business.
